Pearson Test of English.

PTE stands for Pearson Test of EnglishIt’s a computer-based test that measures a person’s English language skills. People use the PTE to apply for university, immigration, or employment. 

The PTE (Pearson Test of English) is another widely accepted English language proficiency test, particularly used for academic purposes and immigration. Below are the key requirements and details you need to know if you’re planning to take the PTE exam:

PTE General was originally introduced by the University of London Schools Examination Board in 1982. The Examination Board converged with the Business and Technological Council (BTEC) in 1996 to become Edexcel, the largest examining authority of academic and vocational subjects in the UK.
You can choose to take your PTE Academic or General Training test on paper or computer at an official test centre. You may also be able to take PTE Online, depending on where you live.

Test Duration & Fee

Listening, Reading and Writing are completed on in one sitting. The Speaking test may be taken on the same day or up to seven days before or after the other tests.

  • – Listening – 30 Minutes
  • – Reading – 60 Minutes
  • – Writing – 60 Minutes
  • – Speaking – Less than 15 Minutes
  • – Total Test Duration: 2 hours and 45 minutes.
  • – Test Fee: NPR 30,000 with effect from 1 Jan 2024. (This rate is subject to change without notice.)
  • – An IELTS result or Test Report Form (TRF) is valid for two years.

Exam Structure

The PTE Academic exam is computer-based and consists of three main parts:

  1. Speaking & Writing (77–93 minutes)

    • This section tests both speaking and writing skills, including tasks such as repeating sentences, describing images, essay writing, and summarizing written text.
  2. Reading (32–41 minutes)

    • The reading section includes tasks like multiple-choice questions, re-ordering paragraphs, and filling in missing words in text.
  3. Listening (45–57 minutes)

    • The listening section includes tasks such as summarizing spoken text, filling in blanks, and answering multiple-choice questions based on audio recordings.

The entire test lasts approximately 3 hours.
